Apple Plum Cardamom Compote
I’m in in full fall mode, even though it’s still technically summer. The air is crisp and a change in season always inspires me to get creative in the kitchen. Gorgeous early fall produce is everywhere here in Southern Ontario and I want it all!
This lovely compote is a great way to use up fruit when you over buy and just can’t get to it in time (me). It’s really a homemade applesauce, but adding plums gives it a boost in flavour AND the colour is just so pretty.
I like it a little on the tart side, but if you like increase the sugar to 1/2 cup.
What I really love most about this recipe is how many ways you can use it. It’s perfect on yogurt, ice cream, sandwiches, a sub for cranberry sauce at holiday time, tarts, cheesecake and even savoury dishes like Braised Pork Chops in Apple Plum Pan Sauce (recipe coming soon!) . Keep refrigerated for up to 10 days. Freezes well.
